Does this help me become a better athlete? HELP HELP HELP?

Monday, July 5th, 2010

I’m a soccer player and i enjoy doing athletics. I usually do athletics towards the end of my soccer season, im beginning to play with the senior age group but im only 16. I’m not as tall and strong as the senior players. Fortunately I am a fast and smart soccer player.

If i wanted to improve my strengths and get faster, fitter and improve my explosive power what equipment would i need?

Is it worth my money to buy a set of dumbells and do weighted squats and lunges as a lower body exercise?

Is it worth my money to buy a set of dumbells and do upper body exercises to improve explosive power in my chest?

Is it worth my time to improve my core strength and abdominal region?

If not, what would you recommend?
( please give me exercises that would be benefitial towards soccer or athletics)

Note: For athletics my event’s are the 100m, 200m and 400m

Thanks in advance,
Yavuz

You need strength to run, upper and lower body.
Don’t do squats, but you can do lunges.
Do a total body routine, with lots of abdominal and core work.
You can also do plyometrics, they will help you develop explosive muscular action.
